Families

Springtime may have the wildflowers, but there is something about winter – the light, the dried grasses, and the sky – that always makes for beautiful photography.  That and having the most adorable couple to work with!

Fun shoot today, couldn’t resist posting this one.  I’ve been TERRIBLE at uploading images lately, but this made me smile.  Great day with a beautiful family – will add more later.

What a beautiful family!  Had the opportunity capture three generations …. grandparents, children, and grandchildren.  Not only were they celebrating Thanksgiving, they were celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary!  So special!

Had the chance to work with a couple of families over the Thanksgiving Holiday.  It’s always fun, and a challenge, to try and get 20+ people engaged in the camera.  For this shot I had to get on a neighbor’s pier and shoot across the water towards their home, which sits out on a peninsula on Lake LBJ.

And of course, we spent several hours getting all of the individual familes, and the grandbabies!  A beautiful afternoon in the Hill Country

I’ve been anxious to try a low key session in the studio – mostly I shoot families and children and sometimes the moody light of low key just doesn’t work.  But my niece was looking for some maternity photos, she is absolutely beautiful, and pregnant with twins, and she and her husband were game for whatever.  So we spent an hour in the studio and came up with some great images ….

Then we combined black on black and white on black images….

And because she is pregnant with a twin girl and twin boy, we decided to turn up all the lights, switch out the background and lighting to high key, and have a little fun!

When I told my husband (and best photo assistant in the world) that I was buying a vintage chair and sofa to do outdoor portraits I know he thought I was crazy.  But sometimes a plan comes together just right.  Even the rain held off long enough for us to catch the beautiful morning light down near Lake Travis.

The sun decided to come out right around the time we piled the entire family onto the matching sofa (how fun is that couch!) and drenched everything and everyone in a bath of light.

Then it was time for the girls to get into their comfy clothes and take a walk along the lake.  They were fabulous models, and such beautiful young ladies.

Inbetween rainshowers we caught a few images at Bull Creek.  I so appreciate it when moms tell me “You’re going to hate what they are wearing, but this is who they ARE right now” … and you know what, she’s absolutely right.  Photography is all about capturing the moment, the memories, and the personalities.  Not some made up image, but the real deal….  Here we are right before the youngest falls headfirst into the water.  Here’s to keeping it real. :)

I’ve not posted forever!  It’s been a busy springtime, and we are fortunate to have one of the most beautiful wildflower seasons in the country!  This morning I had the pleasure of doing a maternity session with a beautiful mom and her two year old daughter walking through the flower fields in Central Texas.

One of the things I encourage EVERY family to do is make sure to get generational images – family images – mothers, grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers, cousins, nices, nephews.  It’s amazing how quickly time flies, and it seems that as I get older the photographs that bring the most joy to my heart are those that include my siblings and my parents/grandparents.  There just aren’t enough of them.

I’ve been crazy busy this fall doing lots of family and sibling images, and I need to get better about posting them, but here are a few favortes from a session in October.   These were done at the grandmother’s request – and she specifically wanted to capture some candid images, and relaxed poses – so we went for a walk and hoped to catch some moments that were natural and relaxed.
